problem(s) with docreader

Postby dexterjohnstone » Thu Jul 15, 2010 8:10 am

Hello,

I have version 9.18.8.58 on a Windows XP Professional SP3 computer.

Docreader no longer works. When I click on the docreader button it sometimes displays this error message “An unknown error has occurred in DocReader’s AHOI module. Please try again. If this error continues to occur, restart Zoomtext (ID #19)”. On other occasions the docreader window opens but displays no text and doesn’t read and sometimes it opens and displays the text but doesn’t read. The problems with docreader occur when I am trying to get it to read webpages and word documents so I don’t think it is the IE8 add on problem - I have tried using docreader with firefox as well and the problem remains.

Also sometimes when Zoomtext starts it displays this error message “zoomtext dll load failure”.

I was going to uninstall/reinstall Zoomtext but wondered if you had any suggestions.

Thanks.
Dexter

Hello Dexter,

Please see if any of the suggestions below may help with the situation. What kind of anti-virus is on the PC? Some anti-virus programs can cause issues. See if the anti-virus has an exceptions list and put the ZoomText 9.1 folder in it.

Adjust for Best Performance For XP, Vista, and Windows 7 (http://www.aisquared.com/knowledge_base/more/kb_article_176/). *Use the directions for Vista for Windows 7.

In XP
1. Click on the Start button
2. Select Run...
3. Type the command below in the blank area next to Open:
msconfig
4. Click the OK button
5. This will bring you to the System Configuration Utility in the General tab
6. Click the radial next to Selective Startup
7. Uncheck Load Startup Items
8. Click the OK button
9. Click the Restart button
10. When the computer restarts a message box will appear stating that you have used the System Configuration Utility
11. Check the box labeled "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration utility when Windows start"
12. Click the OK button.

1. Close all applications.
2. At the ZoomText main menu, choose Help.
3. Choose Tech Support.
4. Into the FixIt command section, type AHOI and click the FixIt button.
5. Highlight the AHOI module you wish to re-register. (Remember which one you're working with.)
6. Click the Remove Module button.
7. Click on the Add Module... button.
8. Highlight the appropriate module or select them all and click the Open button.
9. Click the Exit button.
10. Exit and restart ZoomText.

Take care,

James
